The Discovery is a small and sturdy robotic platform that is especially useful to learn the essentials of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT programming with the Discovery Book. The design starts as the ‘Explorer’, a vehicle with no sensors. As the reader progresses in the book, sensors are added while new programming techniques are introduced.
The robot follows lines, follows objects, avoids objects with either bumpers or the Ultrasonic Sensor, and does a lot more. The strong and flexible caster wheel in the back allows for smooth turning and driving at all times.

could you make a line following program for treaded vehicles?

That would be exactly the same as for a normal line following robot. Consider how a threaded or wheeled robot moves and steers. You’ll find the motors are controlled in exactly the same way.

i know but the distanse you get out of a treaded veachle is diffrent than a normal wheel per 90 degrees.
