New Book: Arduino + LEGO NXT Motors / Sensors

Arduino with LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Motors and Sensors

This book (by John Baichtal et all) shows you how to combine the Arduino with LEGO NXT Components. As far as I can tell, this will teach you how to replace your NXT controller by an arduino — not combine them. Still pretty cool! From the description:

Make amazing robots and gadgets by combining two of the hottest DIY technologies: the venerable LEGO and the upstart Arduino. With this book, you’ll learn how to take LEGO Mindstorms components—motors, sensors, and more—and interface them with the Arduino microcontroller, opening many exciting new options.

You’ll focus on six projects, each more challenging and informative than the next. In each project, you’ll explore different ways that Arduino adds functionality to LEGO Mindstorms. In addition, the authors have created affordable companion kits designed specifically for the projects in this book. Perfect for students, teachers, hobbyists, makers, hackers, and kids.

  • Build projects such as the Cuckoo Clock, Chocolate Milk Maker, DrawBot, Robot Arm, and more
  • Learn the basics of Arduino and LEGO Mindstorms
  • Gain an excellent resource for teaching technology to kids of all ages

Just about all of the book is about replacing the NXT brick with the Arduino, but there is a very very small section on connecting the NXT Brick to the Arduino using I2C.

It should be out in the end of November, and Amazon has a $5 off coupon right now!

Robotsquare is currently being updated, which means that it may look a little different (and not very polished) for a while. All the content and pages should still be there, though. It should be back and fully operational soon. Thanks for your patience!
